One of the best-known historical monuments of Kyiv is St. Volodymyr's Church.
Its exterior is very large, grandiose and uplifting (solemn).
In its design it is a traditional church of ancient Rus', in whose architecture are
combined two styles: that of Rus' and the Byzantine.
It took two decades to build the church.
Several prominent architects worked on its design, whilst the interior
decoration was overseen by Professor Andrian Prakhov of Kyiv University.
Work on the frescoes took ten years.
The mural paintings are of significant artistic value.
The artists created their frescoes and icons freely and with inspiration.
The church also has some paintings which can be deemed to be historic.
These are "The Baptism of Volodymyr" and "The Baptism of the Kyivites", (painted) by Viktor Vasnetsov.
In St. Volodymyr's Church, in spite of yourself, you forget the bustle of
everyday life, and joy and light enter your soul.
