This extract from the folk tale Пан Коцький is written in the
traditional folk narrative style, with some words and phrases which are no
longer part of standard language. In spite of this, it is not difficult to

There was a man who owned an old cat, which couldn't even catch mice any more.
And so his master took him and drove him to the forest, and thought:
"What use is he to me, I'll just be feeding him for nothing; much better if he stays in the forest".
He left the cat, and he himself drove off.
When suddenly a vixen comes up to the cat and says:
"What are you?"
And he says,
"I am Sir Cattison".
